Google just announced a site service called Page Speed which can accelarate your site by 25 to 60 percent. The new service will function like a content delivery network for your entire site: Google will fetch your pages, optimize them, speed them up and then deliver them. It is much like Cloudflare which some Ashford developers use. I an not sure I recommend either service yet, but it is a harbinger that speed is critical to the success of your site.
