Customize your comments

Recommended comment settings for Ashford

These preferences apply to all comments on pages and posts.

  • Dashboard → Settings → Discussion → Default article settings (recommended for most sites)
    • Unselect – Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)
    • Select - Allow people to post comments on new articles
  • Dashboard → Settings → Discussion → Other comment settings (recommended for most sites)
    • Select - Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
    • Unselect – Users must be registered and logged in to comment
    • Select - Automatically close comments on articles older than 14 days
    • Unselect - Enable threaded (nested) comments… (Ashford v0.6 does not yet support this feature)
    • Unselect -Break comments into pages… (Ashford v0.6 does not yet support this feature)
  • Dashboard → Settings → Discussion → E-mail me whenever
    • Select - Anyone posts a comment
    • Select - A comment is held for moderation
  • Dashboard → Settings → Discussion → Before a comment appears
    • For unmoderated commenting on your site,
      • Unselect - An administrator must always approve the comment
      • Unselect - Comment author must have a previously approved comment
      • Tip: if you allow unmoderated comments it is highly recommended that you install and activate Akismet. This will prevent your site from getting attached by comment spam.
    • For moderated commenting on your site,
      • Unselect - An administrator must always approve the comment
      • Unselect - Comment author must have a previously approved comment
  • For the remaining settings, use the defaults.

Turn off comments on pages

According to WordPress best practices, Ashford allows comments to be added to pages. To turn off comments on pages, you need to Uncheck the “Allow comments” settings per page.

Or Ashford can turn off comments to be turned off for all pages,

Dashboard → Apearance → Ashford Options → Choose “no” to display comments on pages.
