What is Ashford?

Ashford was first started by Tim Bednar to aid values-based organizations in designing, building and maintaining simple web sites. While this is still true, this WordPress theme has been designed as a framework that can have many applications: (small business, bloggers, authors, new media and nonprofits).

Ashford has a threefold purpose.

1. Make technology as simple as possible. Owning and operating a web site is a complex business. It requires skill and resources. Ashford makes this technology accessible so owners can build, customize and maintain simple web sites.
2. Design elegant looking web sites. Web sites communicate stories. This project provides vibrant designs that “frame” those stories.
3. Deploy excellent code. WordPress is the most accessible technology platform for small web sites. This project is dedicated to crafting code that works out of the box with as little set up as possible. Ashford gives credit to Sandbox and Thematic themes as the standard in this regard.

What is Ashford Pro and Ashford Dev?

Ashford is available in three versions.

1. The Basic version is free offering premium features to owners and developers.
2. Based on demand, power users will soon (January 2008) have the option to purchase Ashford Pro or Ashford Dev versions. The Pro version will include additional page templates, front page customization, widgets, sidebars and menus.
3. The Dev version will include all Pro features but allow unlimited implementations and development support.
