I use Google Analytics to track the performance of this site and many others.

The problem is that I wanted more information on how people were referred into this site. Specifically, I wanted to know the effectiveness of the link s I have in the code (e.g. to Support). The solution is to use the Google Analytics URL Builder.

Typically, you use this tool with email campaigns or banner ads (e.g. an 125px ad you purchased on a blog). You do NOT need to tag: organic keyword links, links that come from referral sites or AdWords URLs if your Analytics and AdWords accounts are linked.

This simple form allows you to enter the URL (e.g. http://ashford.turtleinteractive.com/support) and add campaign source, campaign medium and campaign name. It builds a link that Google Analytics will track it like an AdWords campaign. This will report what links in my code perform best allowing me to improve the customer experience.

In my case, it is the perfect tool. These links will be in the next release, so  I do not have enough data to share any insights yet.
