Six Free WordPress Website Packages
Are you the person in charge of your ministry, church or nonprofit web site? Are you sick of how hard it is to build and maintain? Would you like to participate in this exciting initiative to develop a flexible technology that helps people like you own a great web site.
I am developing a WordPress Theme called Ashford. To further develop the theme and the entire project, I am giving away six free Wordress Website Packages.

This is my testbed site.
I do a lot of development on WordPress for clients and agree that the interface of the backend leaves a lot wanting. I’d love to help with this project!
Tim Grahl — I just released v0.1.2 of Ashford and the code is much less embarrassing than what I had live yesterday.
I would love to hear what you think of the code — either posted to this comment thread, posted to the bug list or just emailed to me. Right, now that is a good place to start.
The challenge of Ashford is to create a WP theme that can be selected and ready to go — without having to load plug-ins or read documentation.
I see a couple areas where developers like yourself can participate: (1) subtheme CSS development and (2) built in widgets to be included in the functions.php code.
I will try to get a post up soon on how to participate and post a road map for the v1.0 release. Beyond subthemes and widgets, I am going to be building an InPlace HINT engine.
hi tim, i am currently trying to build a number of websites in a fast and cheap/free way for some of the churches and local orgs that i have links with and that have asked for my help (for free). checking out ashford today and i think that i am going to have a go at it and see how it works for me and for these orgs. cheers TMR
The MerryRose — make sure that you check back or subscribe to the RSS feed for new releases. For example, this release re-factored the rounded corners and added support for Google Analytics and Feedburner.
I expect to publish releases at least one a week for a while until this fall when v1.0 will be released.
I found Ashford a pain in a$$ and hard to work with (more like unworkable). The instructions available seemed to apply to a different version (and were inconsistent). Perhaps if one is skilled enough assemble their own WP theme they could use this theme. I think the average user will find this one stunning difficult with a high frustration curve… no kudos here. Anyway, am deleting it and moving on.
Ayn Droid ~ I hear you. Every release attempts to get easier. I’d love to hear specifically what was the problem so I can fix it. Did stuff not work? Were the instructions wrong? Thanks.
