I do a lot of development on Wordpress for clients and agree that the interface of the backend leaves a lot wanting. I’d love to help with this project!

Tim Grahl — I just released v0.1.2 of Ashford and the code is much less embarrassing than what I had live yesterday.
I would love to hear what you think of the code — either posted to this comment thread, posted to the bug list or just emailed to me. Right, now that is a good place to start.
The challenge of Ashford is to create a WP theme that can be selected and ready to go — without having to load plug-ins or read documentation.
I see a couple areas where developers like yourself can participate: (1) subtheme CSS development and (2) built in widgets to be included in the functions.php code.
I will try to get a post up soon on how to participate and post a road map for the v1.0 release. Beyond subthemes and widgets, I am going to be building an InPlace HINT engine.

hi tim, i am currently trying to build a number of websites in a fast and cheap/free way for some of the churches and local orgs that i have links with and that have asked for my help (for free). checking out ashford today and i think that i am going to have a go at it and see how it works for me and for these orgs. cheers TMR

The MerryRose — make sure that you check back or subscribe to the RSS feed for new releases. For example, this release re-factored the rounded corners and added support for Google Analytics and Feedburner.
I expect to publish releases at least one a week for a while until this fall when v1.0 will be released.
